Cape Winds successfully secured a 5-year sponsorship with Quality Beverages (Jive) for St. Augustine’s Cricket Club. This is the biggest sponsorship in the rich history of the club, which now spans over 116 years. Founded in 1899, St. Augustine Cricket Club is one of the oldest cricket clubs in South Africa.
After securing the sponsoring, Cape Winds plays an active role in managing the partnership between Jive and the club. One of the main objectives is to help the club build a new multi-purpose club house at Elfindale, where the club is based.
Cape Winds was also successful in securing smaller sponsorships from Pick n Pay and Provincial Department of Sport and Recreation for the history book project that involves the club documenting it’s history. This project is due to launch in 2016, coinciding with the Test Series between England and South Africa (Proteas). This Test Series is aptly named The Basil D’Oliveira Trophy. The D’Oliveira family name is synonymous with Jive St. Augustine’s Cricket Club. Basil was obviously a stalwart at the club before continuing his career in England.
Besides being a consultant, Ashraf Allie is a member of the club as well, and is part of the D’Oliveira South African Foundation Committee, that includes Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA), and representatives of the D’Oliveira family.
